Timor-Leste Documentary Media

I travelled to Timor-Leste for a student internship. Under the guidance of Dr Wendy Chandler of Western Sydney University and together with 9 other university students, some academics and industry partners, we made documentary media stories with a range of video and photography. In this project we tell the stories of 10 university students from Timor-Leste and 10 university students from Australia. It was both humbling and inspiring to share these student’s stories of hardship and triumph, resilience and hope. The trailer above produced by Dr Chandler shows our combined work. Below is some of the photography and video works that I contributed to the project.

Documentary Photography

I captured these photographs from a range of perspectives — from candid street scenes to moments shot while travelling along rugged roads in the back of a microlet van or four-wheel drive. Our journey took us through schools, villages, and even into people’s homes, offering a rare glimpse into everyday life. The warmth and generosity of the people of Timor-Leste left a lasting impression, and I feel grateful to have documented these connections through my camera lens.

My role in Andres’ Story involved bringing historical photographs to life through digital artistry and animation. Using Photoshop, I hand-painted and stylised archival images before animating them to align with the project’s tone and visual rhythm. View these effects at 0:13–0:32 and 0:39–0:44.
